Christine has been writing since the second grade, when her teacher submitted one of Christine’s poems to Highlights magazine for children, which promptly published it.
She always nurtured a desire to write ever since. In junior high school, she authored short stories, poems, and plays. Upon graduation, she received the school’s Poet Laureate award. Instead of a useless trophy which would only collect dust on a bookshelf, Christine was given a copy of Roget’s Thesaurus, which she treasured (and still uses!).
In college, Christine worked in the Writing Lab, helping other students improve their writing. She wrote stories for Access, the university’s magazine, and also served as copy editor. She wrote articles for NC-SOPHE, the professional organization for health educators. She later served as a writing tutor at the California School of Professional Psychology in San Francisco, working with graduate students to shape their term papers and dissertations.
She has written magazine articles, books, blogs, plays, songs, poems, and psalms. Her creative nonfiction pieces have appeared in Chicken Soup for the Soul, and in eight anthologies by Inspire Press.
Christine’s Poetry of Abuse Collection documents the healing journey of a survivor of family violence through child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence—and offers a powerful testimony of transformation and transcendence.
Her blog, In the Spirit of Thomas Aquinas, addresses topics of the day and relates them to issues of the Christian faith. Her firm belief is that religious concepts can be combined with logic, reason, and critical thinking to develop a clear understanding and robust faith. By spreading seeds for thought through her writing, Christine hopes these can germinate into a healthy, continually evolving plant and growing into a strong tree which will provide shade and sustenance to others.
Christine writes with transparency and authenticity about the struggles of daily life, never drowning them in Christian platitudes, but instead grappling deeply with the difficulties and using faith to address them head-on.
She also conducts research and writes for the scientific community on these topics and often presents her work at professional conferences.
Christine’s newest book, Abuse Breaks God’s Heart, is forthcoming.
